Great space technology fails for commercial reasons, not technical ones.
The Spacing Guild is a commercialisation partner for the space sector. We work inside space companies not alongside them from a distance to turn engineering capability into revenue, contracts, market share and enterprise value.

The problem we exist to solve
The space sector has never had more talent, more capital or more ambition. What it lacks is commercial depth.
Walk through any space cluster, incubator or university spin-out programme and you will find the same pattern. Genuinely excellent technology, developed by exceptional engineers and scientists, sitting at the point where a research project is supposed to become a business — and stopping there.
The reasons are rarely technical
- No clear route to a paying customer, only a route to the next grant.
- Pricing built from cost-plus guesswork rather than value and market reality.
- Contracts signed on the customer's or supplier's terms, quietly transferring risk onto a company that cannot absorb it.
- Cost bases and headcount structured for R&D delivery, not for commercial delivery.
- Growth plans that describe a market opportunity but never a mechanism for capturing it.
- Founders with no plan for what the company becomes, who buys it, or how they exit it.
The result is an over-reliance on public funding, long development cycles that outlast the patience of investors, and technology that never reaches the people it was built to serve. The sector loses capability. The UK loses value. And the engineers who spent years building something remarkable lose the thing they built.
We think that is a solvable problem. We think it is solved with commercial expertise applied properly, early, and by people who can also read the technology.
Who we are
The Spacing Guild was founded on an unusual combination: twenty years of senior commercial leadership, and a technical education in the sector we serve.
Our founder, Kevin Z Morrison, spent two decades in commercial roles — the last ten at CEO, director and board level, building and growing companies from the ground up. That work covered the full commercial spectrum: sales and revenue generation, growth strategy, contract negotiation, financial risk, supply chain, HR and organisational cost, governance, market delivery, and company sale and exit.
Seven years ago, that career was deliberately paused. Not to consult on space from the outside, but to earn the right to work inside it — through full-time academic study, culminating in a Doctorate and Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Astronautics and Space Technology
That decision was made for a simple reason. The space sector does not need more generalist consultants who cannot follow a technical conversation. It needs commercial operators who understand what a payload actually does, what a technology readiness level actually means, what a qualification campaign actually costs, and why a launch slip is a commercial event as much as an engineering one.
What makes us different
**We are hands-on, not advisory.** We do not deliver a strategy deck and leave you to implement it. We sit in the negotiations. We build the model. We write the terms. We work the pipeline. Our value is in execution, not observation.
**We understand the technology.** You will not spend the first three months teaching us what your company does. We can assess feasibility, timelines and technical risk credibly — and that changes the quality of every commercial decision that follows.
**We are commercially accountable.** We are measured on outcomes: contracts won, costs reduced, risk mitigated, funding secured and valuation built. Not on hours logged or reports produced.
**We scale to what you need.** Some clients bring us in for a single negotiation or a one-off feasibility review. Others engage us as an embedded commercial function for a year or more. Both are welcome, and both get the same standard of work.
**We are independent.** We do not take a position on your technology roadmap to suit a funder, a partner or ourselves. Our advice is the advice we would take if it were our company — because it has been.
We speak both languages, very few people do.
What we do
In short: everything commercial that stands between a good space technology and a successful space company.
That includes company health and commercial diagnostics; feasibility and route-to-market assessment; identifying and mitigating financial risk; negotiation on major contracts with customers, suppliers and landlords; supply chain and procurement review; workforce cost and structure; pricing and revenue model design; building, training and running sales teams, including CRM implementation and target setting; growth strategy and market share capture; funding and investment readiness; and, when the time comes, company sale and director exit planning.

Beyond our clients
We believe a commercially healthy space sector needs more than commercially healthy companies. It needs people at every level, from every background who know the sector exists and can see a path into it.
That is why The Spacing Guild commits a share of its time and resources to not-for-profit outreach, connecting people of all ages to the space sector through education, and helping to inspire the pioneers who will build it next.
